Know Your Tennis Racket

Did you know that to play a good game of tennis you need to know where to hit the ball with your racket?

It is true. There is a spot on the racket that is called the sweet spot. There are different locations that have these sweet spots due to how the racket is strung. If you hit the ball in one of these locations you will not feel any vibrations but if hit outside these spots the vibrations can be felt down into the handle of the tennis racket.

Just as there is a right place to hit the ball with the racket there is also a wrong place on the racket known as the dead spot. The dead spot is directly above the sweet spot that is in the center.

The reason the dead spot is there is due to the string tension is right next to the rackets frame and it is shared between those two. The energy of the ball when you hit it is transmitted to the racket and not to the ball.
